We do not hold ourselves in any way responsible for the opinions and sentiments expressed by correspondents. Alli communications must be accompanied by thp correct, 11/1 me am 1 urltlres?.of the writer, not necessarily for publication but as :i gunr-intec of good fuitli. fTo the Editor of the Mount Ida Cinio.srci/K.) Sißj—Will .you kindly publish a few words iii explanation of a letter siijned Carter "in your issue of the 10th. "Car--1 ter" states that it is U'rlrss to spend money on the Kyeburn roads, to facilitate the supplying of coal to if one man is allowed to enjoy an unchecked monopoly of the coal ground. In answer to this statement I will simply say that no monopoly at present exists in the coal trade, as two leases-havo been grantod for some years, both of which are at present in full working order. What the roads have to .do. with the monopoly I am unable to say. In tho second place, " Cirter" states —" at present carters may go to Kyeburn, and' be detained one or two days before they can be loaded, and then only as a favor." Jn answer to the above, I may affirm that if carters cannot get loaded at one pit, they are pretty, sure to be able to be loaded at 'the other. If, however, it suits the carter's convenience better to remain for two days at one pit. surely they jiave no ground of complaint on the score of monopoly. In conclusion I may state that carters'may depend that where there is opposition, and that opposition supported, they will always meet with civility and despatch.—l am, &c., ■ Collies.
