MINERS' ASSOCIATION.
The first meeting of- the new Committee was held at Mr. Busch's residence oilThursday evening, 28t!i inst. ThefulJowing members- were- present:—Mpssrs. Jackson, Clarke, Moore, Robert*, JVade,Shannon, Woodhill, Cooper, and WttSper^ .ELECTION OF OFFICEES." - -/~~ /" Mr. Cuhke stated" that the'first busi-" ness was the election of officers for-"the"" ensuing year, when it "was resolved that jMr. ,C: P. Roberts be the permanent eliairman,;and that Mr. Geo..Clarke berequested to act-again as Secretary and - Treasurer. In reply, Mr. Claeke said thathe„would be glad to start the : new . Committee, but would not "undertake 'the " duties for another Tear. .
SLTTDGB CHANNEL. A long discussion took place in reference to the course and gradients o"f tlie kludge Channel, at which Mr. Crei<diton was present—he having no plans," but little information could be obtained. The Secretary then suggested that a bub-Gomniittee, consisting of Messrs Cooper, Shannon, Webber, and the Secretary, wait upon Mr. Surveyor Browne, (o ascertain the present gradient, and the depth that the Channel is capable of being made to work.
The Committee waited upou-oMr, " Browne, according to arrangement,-on baturdav morning last, when he kindly placed at their disposal all the information required, and said that he should be liapi>yat any time, to e ive the Association all the assistance in his power. From' the information and explanations by Mr. Browne the Committee was satisfied r.hat ' the gradient can be altered to a-dopih sufficient to work nearly all the ground o>i; the Hat, withhi live or si* miles 6f the town. ■ •
After thanking Mr. ,Browne for his courtesy, the Committee retired, -well pleased with the interview. ,
