The ' Daily Times - of Tuesday last draws attention to the neglect of, the Government to circulate the Goldfields Bill, as promised. The complaint is amply justified. -

At the sale of 4,080 acres in Glenkennich district on the 2nd, Captain M'Kenzie bought nearly everything at from £l.to £2 lis. per acre. Three other sections "were purchased' by Mr. Carew at from £2 Bs. to £4 2s. per acre.

The following sensational telegram comes from Adelaide. Major Warburton and party reached Western Australia safely,-having travelled overland from South Australia,. They pas*sed over 900 miles of unexplored country, and arrived without provisions.. They had eaten all their camels out? three.' No further particulars to - hand. The Otago Water Race Company, at St. Bathans, are reported to'he progressing rapidly with their race,- having as many as sixteen hands employed. The Blue Duck Company are rapidly bringing their faue to its termination, which will be. a great satisfaction and source of prosperity to the company when finished. .The" candidates _at present announced to represent Dunedin in the Assembly an! Provincial Council are, for the-Assembly: Mr. G. ' E Barton, and the Goldfields Secretary, 'Mr. Bastings. For the Council, .M r. J3. B. Cargill, Mr. Beeves, Mr. C. R. Chapman, aud Mr." B. Isaac. No doubt many • persons anticipate that the shooting season this year will begin as last year on the Ist March, but this is not the case. Last year's proclamation only related to the- year 1873, aud no fresh arrangements have been made. It will, therefore, be illegal to shoot any birds or game until the issue of a new proclamation, and anybody transgressing will be liable to the prescribed penalties; It is expected the time will be extended to the Ist April. -i-« Star.'
•We regret to learn the unexpected death at Drinedin of Mr. Arthur Buchanan, on the 28th of February, the eldest son of Dr. Buchannan. Mr. Buchanan was for many years well known on the Pateroa Station, now occupied by Captain Baldwin, and was u'uiversally esteemed for his kindly disposition .and hearty,good nature. He has for some years been in the, North Island on some freehold country he' and others had taken up in a wild state. On a- visit to his father in Dunedin he was taken ill suddenly with typhoid fever, from, the effects of which he never rallied.
, We are informed that the Committee the Blackstone Hill School' have accepted the tender of Mr. Geo. Stephens for the schoolhouse, and that of Air. Hugh Brown of his two-roomed cottage (to be moved to the school ground) for a residence - To erect al-" together new buildings at present prices was impracticable, as the Committee would have been hopelessly in debt. Under the. present arran foment they will still bsiudebted, but not unjustifiably so, in the opinion of the Committee, considering the pressing wants of the district. The pluck of the Committee deserves a liberal support throughout the immediate district.

AT'Tuapeka lately a foot race was run between J. Harris, of local notoriety, and " Harry Money. Money won the Jirat heat, and Harris the second. When within" twenty yards of the winning post in the third heat, a mate of Money's called out to him'to fall; as he had backed Harris. Money accordingly fell; but Harris,- whose pecuniary interest lay, in Money's winning, fell also, thu3 spoiling the little swind'e. ~. The picnic hell on Monday last at. the Llanarohymedd Lake, .Welshman's Gully, in honor of St. David's Day, came off with .great success. About 150 men women and children were on the ground from all quarter. " Foot races of all descriptions were the order day, not omitting the laughable sack race. Tubs were" prepared for a tub race on the lake, but there was not time for it to be disposed- of The Committee provided tea,-san.lwiches, &c, which weie appreciated. In, the evening the "schoolroom wa3 lighted up for the ball, which was opened at ten "o'clock by a suitable Welsh song, composed by Mr. "Jonas; and sung I>y the' assembly. Dancing was indulged in in the evening till twelve o'clock, when an interval occurred, during which more Welsh songs were sung. At a late, or rather early, hour the night's . amusement was brought to a close by those present singing God save the Queen! Welshman's Gully certainly seems to possess a ptf-' palatum who know how to enjoy themselves."
