The -subjects of the meetings were as follows: ■ ; xi- ol * t}xe 14th ultimo a meeting was held at • the Flagstaff Hotel, at which the whole Commat 66 Were P resent • Mr - Cain in the chair. —Mr. Durward was unanimously elected as Secretary for the ensuing twelve months.— It was then proposed by Mr. M'Hardy, and seconded by Mr. M'Whirter: "That the Secretary be empowered to write to the Secretary for Public Works, asking whether the Government would give a subsidy of £2 to £l, if the public would subscribe money or labor, for the erection of two foot-bridges (much heeded) over the Kyebufh Creek. Carried.—A vote of thanks to the chair terminated the proceedings. A meeting of the Lower Kyeburn Committee was again held on the Ist November,' when all the members were present.—The ; Chairman (Mr. Durward) stated that he had as yet received no reply from the Government. Since then, however, the following reply has been received:— "Public Works Office (Provincial)', ««• T " ° unedin > 28th °ct., 1873. . Sir, —I have the honor to acknowledge the receipt of your letter of the 20th instant, enquiring if the Government would be likely to grant a subsidy of £2 to £1 on money or labor subscribed by the public for the purpose of erecting two foot-bridges'on the Kyeburn Creek; and, in reply, to inform you' that the Government will bs prepared-to ! subsidise contributions in money to the proposed work at the rate of £2 to £1 on any sum not exceeding £] 00J < "The plans for the bridges can be prepared • in the Engineer's office. "If the Committee will agree to this, and will indicate the position of the two bridges to the District Engineer, he will be' instructed to forward plans of site. "Alex.-Willis,! " Under-Secretary.for Works and Goldfields. , It was then resolved that subscription lists* : be opened. —The meeting then : adjourned.
