(Froai oui' own correspondent.) Duuediii, Thursday "Evening. The Council was prorogued yesterday. The usual sessional fight took place over the honorarium. The Government measures proposed 10s. to the town and 20s. to the country members. Numerous amendments were proposed, but ultimately 20s. all round Avas voted. Captain Boyd is appointed Deputy Superintendent. The Ot'ago members of the Assembly proceeded North to-day. Boenicke's glue factory, Kaikorai, has been destroyed by fire. The loss, which is estimated at £I,OOO. is covered by insurance in the South British Company to the amount of £650. PARLIA MENTARY .„ The second reading of the District Courts Bill was carried by 35 to 17. The Hon. Mr Bathgate said that the Government had no intention of making appointments under the Bill, but proposed to empower the Judges of the Supreme Court to sit on District Courts. The Government introduced a Bill authorising mining on private property. At a meeting of the Opposition yesterday Mr Stafford stated that private affairs prevented him leading. The Opposition was therefore disbanded. The Financial Statement has been Generally Avell received, thoiigh in some quarters exception was taken to the proposed change from measurement to ad valorem duties. At Auckland, a petition against the new Tariff has been signed by 3,000 persons. INTERPROVIJfCIAL. In Auckland, at a meeting of the Trust Loan Company, the' Chairman regretted. the difficulty that prevailed of investing funds, while the loan portion of the business is stagnate. EppAvrigkt, for the murder of the mate of his-skip at Russell, has been hanged. After . the cap was fitted and the drop knocked off he only fell six inches. All efforts to lower the drop proved ineffectual, so the culprit had to be' taken down and the drop readjusted. When the drop fell the second was instantaneous.
