It will be observed by an advertisement that Mr. It. W. Daniel proposes to run a coach daily between Queenstown and Arrowtown. On Saturday evening a grand banquet was given to Mr Mackay by the Volunteer Cavalry at Cambridge, Several of the officers were present. Mr Mackay's health was enthusiastically drunk. In acknowledging the compliment, Mr Mackay said that he had always acted in perfect accord with the Native Minister as to the steps to be taken. He had great hopes that the murderers would be given up. Purukutu had been requested by Rewi and the King to come to Tokangamutu. Rewi sent for him with one view, the King with another. Rewi said to the King, "Give the men up, or I will hand [them ?] myself over to the Government." Mr Mackay told the meeting that his interview with Rewi was the most satisfactory thing that had occurred since he had been in the Waikato. Rewi had told him that so long a3 the fighting was carried on by Europeans he would not interfere ; but if other tribes were brought here, he would have to fight. Mr Mackay further said that he was in hopes the matter would be settled without the cessity of war, but if war should become necessary, it should be the last Maori war, and the Queen's writ should run throughout the island.
