WASTE LANDS BOARD.
(Condensed from oe.' Star'.) The weekly meeting of the Board-: was Jield; last week. The members:, jpresent were Messrs Tolmie, Strode, Buttecworth, Clark, and Thomson. The business transacted was as follows : 'An application was made by Mr. John Prescott for the lease of three 'acres; of land near St. Bathans, for coal-mining purposes. Instructions were given ■ that, a sketch of the ground being sent in," a license should be given upon the usual terms. An opinion was received and read from the Provincial Solicitor, to the effect, that runholders could not take up pre-emptive rights within proclaimed reserves. .The re-hearing of the Hon. Mr. Campbell's application was, at his own request, postponed to July 3. The following appointments as Boards of Inquiry were approved of:—Mount Ida : Messrs Sanders and Hoss, with Mr Warden Kobinson, District Land Officer, as chairman; Queenstown: Messrs B/ Hallenstein and Archibald Douglas, with Mr. Warden Beetham, District .Land. Officer, as chairman. Thursday next being, a. holiday, the Board, adjourned till Friday ; the 13thinstant.
