ATHENÆUM MEETING.
On Friday evening last, a public meeting took place to receive the resignation of the Athenaeum Committee, and to appoint a new one to take over the finished work, and initiate a scheme of management. On account of the severe weather a small number only attended, about twenty in all. His Wobship the Mayor was called to the chair, and briefly explained the work the Committee had done.
On the motion of Me M'lntosh, a vote of thanks was passed to the retiring Committee, for the efficient manner in which they had conducted the work they were appointed to do. On the motion of Me Busch, seconded by Me E. C. Smith, it was resolved " That no gentleman who was not present should be eligible for nomination as a member of the new Committee." • An amendment was put by Me Jackson, seconded' by Me de Lautoue and lost " That any gentleman nominated, whether in the room or not, should be eligible for election." A Committee of eight were then chosen by ballot, out of twelve nominated. The; names were Messrs J. S. ivi'lntosh, J. Brown, L. W. Busch, JY Cooper, D. Pipe, G. F. Newmarch, E. C. Smith, and E. T. George. The late chairman then handed over the books and papers, by order of the new Committee, to Mr E. T. George, and the meeting broke up with a vote of thanks to the chair.
