Hesidestt Magistrate's Court. (Before IT. W. Robinson, Esq., 11.M.) Police v. John Farquharson.—ln formation for breach of licensing Ordinance. It appeared that the defendant had, on the 28th February, on the occasion of some races at Strafchtaieri, had a booth on the course, where beer, &C-, had been sold. The defendant alleged'in extenuation, that lie had paid the money for a bush license prior to the date in question, and that he thought he was not breaking the law. He produced a bush license bearing a date subsequent to the 28tb. ol' February. Fined £5, with £1 9s. <kl. costs, and £2 18s. expenses. Stanley v. Lockwood.—Debt £5 15s. fid., value of tvyo casks of tallow, loss £4, for which credit was given to the defendant. Defendant had paid 16s. into Court. The circumstances of this case were, that the defendant, wlio is a carrier, had taken two casks of tallow to Dunedin for sale, on account of tlie plaintiff. The plaintiff debited liim with the quantity as 6cwl. 2qrs. and Dibs., but defendant swore that when weighed in town, they had ouly turned out 4cwt. IqL\ and lOlbs., arid produced sale note tVora V.he merchants, showing that he had only received payment for that quantity. Judgment for IGs., the amount paid into Uourt.
