JN"o doubt he is very estimable in private life, but totally unfitted for the responsible office to which it is proposed to appoint him, his peculiar temperament- and vagaries being patent to ail who know him. I may remark that the boriifaee, ex-barber; &c, (how is it'barbers will dabble in politics) who called upon me •with the requisition for signature, said nothing as to a pledge inserted in it, to give the - subscribers' votes and interest, until I asked him the question, when,on his saying "Oh yes; of course," I politely declined to commit myself. I.wonder whether others took the same precaution. Let me impress ,upon the ratepayers'the necessity for.caution in the., selection of both* Mayor and Councillors,- as upon the first year's proceedings of the Council their future Municipality's fate depends. —Yours &c, ' , .
