. {i* rom our own correspondent.) ♦— DESTRUCTIVE FIRE IN AUCE:r LAND. £50,000 WORTH of PROPERTY DESTROYED. PROVINCIAL AND GENERAL GOVERNMENT BUILDINGS BURNT. ONE MAN NEARLY KILLED. Duuediii, Wednesday, 12 noon. A destructive fire took place at Auckland'this morning, when property to the value of £50,000 was totally destroyed. Among the buildings consumed were the Post Office, the Telegraph Office, the Custom House, and the Provincial Government Buildings. Only a few documents and the mails were saved. The Bank of Australia had a narrow escape. Fifteen stores were partially destroyed. • During the fire, one man was nearly killed, and two firemen were severely injured. The amount of damage covered by insurance is not yet known. IV Government Buildings, which cost £25,100, were not insured. The remainder of the buildings are all reported as being covered by insurance. The fire originated in a flax store. Duuedin, Thursday, 4 56 p.ni. It has bfeen'"'. ascertained- that the stores destroyed by the conflagration are covered by insurance to the amount of £12,000. stdney, November 11th. Khroman's crushing at Tambaroora ayeraged 40ozs. to the ton, and Byers ana Hallerman's 65ozs. The Hiliend mines are increasing in richness.
