IMPUHE KEROSENE. (To the Editor of the Mouxx Ida. Chronicle:.)
Sib,—A short time ago I took notice of a paragraph about-the treatment of impure kerosene, in one of your contemporaries, to the effect that when the oil in kerosene lamps gets low ah exp'osivc gas accumulates thereinj which renders explosion extremely, probable. It went on to : state that a pinch of salt put into the lamp Would purify the oil and prevent such accumulations of dangerous gases i At this distance from the wholesale, market our storekeepers occasionally get very impure oil imposed upon them. I have frequently had it so bad that the burning of it was very offensive, especially on first entering a rootii; and when having to inhale tiie effluvium all night, it becomes very detrimental. :It lias been my misfortune to be obliged to burn it in my. bedroom every night, and I. hailed the sugf gestion with hopeful anxiety, and tried the salt without delay, which, I am happy - to say, completely purified the oil from all offensive smell, and caused it to produce a much brighter light; and, seeing that it ; has accomplished so much, lalso feel every confidence in its increased safety. If you will insert this, jjLr. Kditor, it -may do far more good than some of the rubbish; which has lately crept into your, columns.—l am, &c.,
Fact.
