ST. BATHANS.

f*- " Nov. 5. The only news this week is the intended visit to St. Bathans of the Mount Ida Grarrick Club, for the purpose of raising funds in aid of the Mount Ida District Hospital. lam sure the Grarrick Club will meet with a hearty reception in St. Bathans, and notwithstanding the many weighty demands lately made on their liberality, I am sure the people here, who, be it said, are never seen to stand behind ths door when charity calls, will back up the worthy efforts of the Garrick Club to the best of their ability. *

immediately concerned. The principal exception was in the matter of fie aplication of the proprietors of the High Level Channel to deepen their tail race, which was objected to by the itose, Shamrock, and Thistle Company, and by Tiernan and party. It was decided to grant a certificate providing for the prior rights of the first-named objectors. Mr. Tie man's objection in the case was novel and rather intricate. The parties have tail races crossing each other, and have for some years been working on a floor several feet above the true bottom, to enable them, by keeping plenty of fall, to put through a large quantity of ground. The High Level, who at present have their tail race Huuied over Tieruan's race, having worked out the higher level, desire now to deepen their tail race to enable them to work below, and to do this they must pass under Tiernau's race at probably tho same level that will hereafter best suit Tiernan and party, who claim that they having rhe oldest right, are entitled to select the level their race should occupy at any future time. On the other hand, the High Level party claim that they, as being the first applicants for a particular level, are entitled to a grant. The Warden said that this was a matter not directly provided for by the bye-laws, and he should endeavor to meet the actual requirements of both parties, and avoid making a grant which might prove as great an obstruction to the one as benefit to the other, and he invited suggestions and concessions from both. Ultimately it was agreed to, and the Warden decided to issue a certificate giving the High Level Channel a choice of level to a depth not exceeding sixteen feet below their present box.

The application of Richard Wheeler for a residence area, including land lately known as the Camp Reserve, was objected to by several residents in the neighborhood, who required a right of way through the land to a spring of water on the hillside, and for the passing of their cattle to pasture. The application was granted, with a provision meeting the objections raised. The following applicationa also were granted : —Sutherland and party, for a water right from Big Blackmails and German Grullies ; Samuel Sutherland, for protection to a claim near Roses Gully ; Scandinavian Company, for alteration of a race by nuining over Slaughter Yard Saddle.

It is understood that an application* by John and James Halley, for a special claim of ten acres at Smokers Flat, was handed to the Warden after the rising of the Court, and that he decided to adjourn any action upon it until the next sitting, as he desired publicity should be given to the fact of the application having been made.
