CHURCH MEETING.
A meeting of the Presbyterian Church Committee took place in the Masonic Hail on the evening of Friday last, 27th ult. The meeting was convened for the purpose of receiving the Treasurer's report of receipts and expenditure during the past nine months, and to elect a new committee. The chair was occupied by the Kev. Mr. M'Cosh Smith,, who, after having explained the object for which the meeting was convened, called upon Mr. John Bremner, Chairman of the Committee for a statement' of their proceedings, who in an elaborate speech reviewed the action taken by the Committee since their appointment. The Treasurer (Mr. D. Barron) read his report, and exhibited a balance sheet which showed the funds of the Church to be in a flourishing condition. On the motion of Mr, W. William--son, sec. nded by Mr. John Eccles, the treasurer's report and balance sheet were received and adopted. The Committee then resigned. t A resolution by Mr. John Creighton, seconded by Mr. Eccles, that a subscription list be opened for the purpose of raising funds for the erection of a church and manse, was carried unanivmously.
Proposed by Mr. J. S. M'lntosh, seconded by Mr. Hay—" That a Committee of Management, to consist of twenty, be elected, with power to. filli up vacancies—seven to form a quorum." Carried. The motion of Mr. John Creighton to open subscription lists, was warmly supported by Mr. R. Glenn, who urged upon the meeting the necessity of immediate aciion being taken in the matter. As members of Committee twentynine ge .tlen en were nominated, out of whom twenty are to be elected. The ballot-box will remain at Mr. Kirbv's until Monday next, the Gth inst
• HYDE.—Oct. 11. -.Warden's Court. (Before E. H. Carew, Ksq , Warden.) Quinlan and Others v. M'Kay and Others.—Claim, £2O damage for loss sustained through defendants running water oyer plaintiffs' dam. The evidence possesses no feature of interest. The Warden, after visiting the ground, gave judgment for the plaintiff—£2, with costs 125., and 15s. expenses of one witness. The application of James Quinlan, for a tail raee was adjourned till the next Court day.
The applications of Murray and others, for extended claim ; T. Jackson, for extended claim and tail race; and James Bruhn, for residence area, were refused.
The application of J. Quinlan, for an extended claim, was withdrawn.
The application of Willliam Henning, for a residence area, was granted. The other business was of a purely routine character.
