MOUNT IDA DISTRICT SCHOOL EXAMINATION.
The examination of the scholars took place in the schoolroom on Friday last, the 30th ult. in presen *e of Mr. Petchell (the schoolmaster), the Rev. Mr. M'Cosh Smith, and several members of the School Committee The children (65 of whom wero in attendance) were
examined in six reading classes and in grammar, and the prizes were awarded as follow : READING. Class I. (1G scholars). —Ist prize, S. J. Nicholas; 2ad, J. Dixon; 3rd, R. Dixon; special prize, W. M. Millar. W. J. Blair, K. Smith, and L. Webber were specially recommended. Cfcuw 11. (10 scholars). —lst prize, B. Brookes ; 2nd, A. Baird. P. Bleach, R. Wilson, and J. Marshall were specially recommended. Class HI. (15 scholars). —Ist prize, P. Morrein ; 2nd, A. Currie; 3rd, E. Richards. M. Burns and ff. Marshall were specially recommended. Class IV. (12 scholars). J. Robertson ; 2nd, C. Gason ; 3rd, J. M'Gratb. A. Poppleton was specially recommended. Unclassed, 2nd Book (5 scholars). — Prize, M. J. Blair; recommended, R. Baird. TTnclassed, Ist Book (12 scholars). —Prize, J. Brookes. GHAMMiH Class I. —lst prize, W. J. Blair ; 2nd, R. Dixon. Class ll.—lst prize, S. J. Nicholas ; 2nd, J. Meehan. Class lll.—lst prize, P.Bleach; 2nd, B. Brookes. GEOGRAPHY. Class I. —lst prize, \V. J. Blair; 2nd, R. Dixon. Class II. —Ist prize, S. j. Nicholas ; 2nd, L. Webber. Class 111. —lst prize, B. Brookes : 2nd, P. Bleach. HISTORY. Class I.—lst prize, W. J. Blair; 2nd, J, Dixon. Class ll.—lst prize, A. W. Millar ; 2nd, J. Meehan. REGULA.It ATTENDANCE. Prize-taker: R. Dixon. GOOD CONDUCT. Prize-takers : Boys, S. Inder ; girls, C. Grace. WRITING. Prize-takers : Boys, J. Dixon ; girls, R. Dixon. A special prize was awarded to James Meehan.
At half-past twelve o'clock an adjournment took place, and upon re-as-sembling the prizes as above were distributed by Messrs. Bremner and Grumitt, little b )oks and picture cards beinu; presented to the unsuccessful competitors. After the Kev. James M'Cosh Smith had addressed the children —passing a hijjh on both pupils and teacher—the schoolmaster granted three days' holiday, with a promise of a like holiday at a future period.
