HOSPITAL FOR NASEBY.

The following is a copy of the petition which it is, intended to forward to the Speaker and members of the Provincial Council, having reference to the establishment of an hospital in this place. Copies of this petition will, we are informed, lie at the various places of business, as well at Kyeburn, Hill's Creek, St. Bathans, Hamilton, and Hyde, as ii this place. Considering the strong feeling which has been manifested throughout the Mount Ida District for the establishment of such an institution, we doubt not that the petition will be not only extensively but universally signed:— To the Honorable the Speaker and the Members of the Provincial Council of Otago : The Petition of the undersigned inhabitants of the Mount Ida District Humbly showeth— That this District has been up to the present time, and still continues, in the anomalous position of being without an established place of reception and treatment for the sick. That the sole place to which sufferers can be removed and treated is a public house, which is manifestly an improper and insufficient place for such a purpose. That accidents have been, from earthfall and other causes, of but too frequent occurrence in [this district.

j That the revenue derived from this district |has been very considerable, with but little exf penditure therein. I That your petitioners desire to see estab- | lished an Hospital for the reception of the sick, upon the most economical system. : That your petitioners have learnt with great I satisfaction that notice has been given by Mr. Mervyn to place upon the Estimates the sum \of £SOO, for the purpose of erecting and providing a suitable building at Naseby. { That your petitioners are perfectly satisfied Ito leave the plan in which such building shall 'be ei*ected to the discretion of the Government, and to submit for their approval the j Rules and Regulations for its management 'when erected. ■ That the ways and means for the support of such an establishment would, in the opinion of * your petitioners, be. amply met by the continuance of the subsidy heretofore granted to the \Mount Ida Relief Fund. ? That the erection of a building at Naseby | would be available for patients from St. /Bathans, Hill's Creek, Kyeburn, Hamilton, (Hyde, and Macraes. f Your petitioners therefore pray that your t Honorable House will give your sanction to the placing upon the Estimates the sum of |£soo, of which notice has been given by Mr. I Mervyn.
