Resident Magistrate's Court, (Before H. W. Robinson, Esq., R.M.)
Larceny. —Thomas Thornton jvan charged witli stealing a pocket-book, value 65., anjd 10s. in silver from the person of Joseph Hardwicke. It appeared that the men had been drinking together, and that Hardwicke fell asleep at Deem's hotel. The accused was shortly afterwards Jjien with, the pocket-book in questionjpbieh he tore, and threw down the jpiece torn off. Shortly afterwards th<Flandlord, from information, woke H ardwicke, and asked him if he had lost anything. On searching his pockets he missed the book and some silver. The torn book was found on the floor near him. The accused made no defence. Committed for fourteen days, with hard labor. Breach, of Licensed Auctioneers Ordinance.—T. Stanley, for selling by auction vvithout a license, was fined £5 and costs, 14s.
