GOLD WASHING MACHINE.

The following is the concluding portion of the article on the above subject:—ln this experiment, however, there was no quicksilver used, which, of course made the result'more satisfactory, showing that the consruction of the lower part was peculiarly adapted for the retention of tha dust, some of which was so fine as to float in the water when moved about in a tin dish. The motive power required for working the machine will be small. One man very readily kept it in motion when the experiment was made; and a child of eight years of age turned the handle when the cradle was empty. Another feature of the machine is that its contents cannot be tampered with, as the hopper may be locked down. There is also, as an adjunct to the machine, an apparatus for crushing cement, burnt qua. tz, or cascalho, frequently the matrix of diamonds. This consists of two rollers, the one being the" centre part of tha main axle, and t**e other being above, and working on it by means of a cogwheel. Some good sized pieces of stone were crushed by way of experiment, and the machine appeared to do the work effectively. We were not able to form an idea of the working capacity of the machine, but Mr. Stephens informs us that from other experiments he has made, it will wash twelve tons of dirt an hour.—' Sydney Morning Herald.'
