HYDE—PUBLIC MEETING.

A public meeting was held at Hyde to take into consideration the monopoly at present existing betwixt the banks in that district. The following are the minutes :

Proposed by James Quinlan, and seconded by Joseph Kelly— : "That the Chairman be requested to communicate w.'th the respective bank agents at Naseby, requesting they should raise the pj'ice of gold to £3 17s. 6d. per oz., the price paid in other districts." Carried.

Proposed by; James Ramsay, and seconded by Alexander Teviotdale—''That •the Chairman communicate, with the other banks in Dunedin to ascertain the price, they will -give for gold delivered there." Carried.

Proposed by James Quinlan, and seconded by llugh M'Aulay—"That a Committee be appointed to communicate with the .inhabitants in other parts of the district, tor the purpose of cooperating with the inhabitants of Hvde to take the necessary steps to break the monopoly existing between the banks." Carried
