(To the JEditor of Hie Moitxt Ida Cheosicle.) Sru,—l beg you will give me space in your next- issue for the purpose of explaining why I. demanded rent for stabling from Messrs. Chaplin and Co. At the request of Mr. ]S:ettlefold (Messrs. Chaplin and Co.'s road manager) I gave them the use of a fourstalled stable. j&iol; satisfied with that, 1. was next requested to build a house for the.; accommodation of the groom, and to contain horse-feed. This I declined to do. 1 was next asked to fur-' nislrthc estimate; of erecting a building for the above purposes ; and, after receiving the necessary information, X forwarded ii- to Dunedin The answer 3! received in reply was that Messrs. Chaplin and Co. wished me to continue as formerly, until Mr. Chaplin's next journey up, which, I was informed, would be about the date of the Mount Ida Rices, when he would be in the district. Five stalls and one loosebox were then being occupied, and I demanded rent. They theu removed to another house where they have not had necessary accommodation—hence the letter from Mr. Chaplin in last week's issue—l am, &e., 33. T. GrEOBGE.
