THE MINERS' STRIKE—PUBLIC MEETING.
A public meeting of the miners and others took place in the Victoria Hall to hear the report of the. delegates appointed to confer with the 'water companies. The hall was crowded to overflowing. John O'Loughlan was called to the chair.)
The Chairman said that this meeting was called for thepurpose of acquainting them with the result of the conference between the delegates- and the water : companies. He was sorry to say that the matter had not yet been settled, inconsequence of the water companies insisting on a higher price than the delegates felt justified in giving on behalf of their, constituents. : , :
, ■ The following 1 resolutions were then proposed, and carried unanimously v " That no water be used at £2 per head."
" That an application be made to the Superintendent for an extension of protection for three months.'' Several gentlemen afterwards addressed the meeting at considerable length. v " /:: . The proceedings, which were orderly throughout, terminated with. the usual vote of thanks to the Chairman!.
