The mining, progress of Victoria is summarised in a recent issue of the 'Mining Eecord ' as follows:—Where eighteen years ago not a man worked, there are now 64,658 miners, and 1043 steam engines engaged on 884 miles of reefs, the total value of plant being es~ timated in round numbers at about £2,150,432. A German gentlemen wrote an obituary, in English, on the death of his wife, of which the following is a copy: "If mine vife hat lived till next Friday, she would have been dead just two weeks. Noting is possible' wit de Almighty. As de tree falls, so he must stand.",.
