Afiss A. Comfort, of Mar ton, is spending a holiday with Airs. A. Ross, -of Purcell Street. Afiss Doull, who has been visiting -Miss Duncan, of Lady’s Mile, bas returned to -Alntahi. Air. P. Lumsdon, of Wanganui, is visiling Foxton and renewing acquaintances with old friends. Mr. and Mrs. Johnson and daughter have taken up their resilience in Foxton. -Some years ago Air. and Airs. Johnson resided in Foxton when Air. Johnson was connected with Hie local Post Office. At the prize-giving function in connection with I lie local AleHiodisi Sunday School last night, Air. P. J. Alarm (a former minister of the charge) in (lie- absence of the Rev. Air. Tapp, made eulogistic reference to the work of both Afr. and Mrs. (1. Huntley, tie said Mr. ITuntley had been superintendent of the Sunday School for 20 years. Only those engaged in such work, said Air. Mairs, knew the sacrifices that it entailed. Mr. Huntley had always been found at the post of duty and by example and precept bail won Hie confidence and affection of the children. On behalf of the church and parents he sincerely thanked Ah', and Mrs. Huntley. •Air. Mairs’ remarks were received with applause, by those present, Mr. G. AYoodrool'c, of Avenue Rd., met with a painful injury last Thursday evening. He was acI'Diiipanyiiig Air W. Edlin on a lorry which made a call at a residence at Heatherlea on the way to Foxton. Will on leaving flic place Air. Woodroofe got out and opened the gate. Mr. Edlin drove the lorry through and commenced to climb up a- gradient on to the road while Mr. Woodroofe dosed the gate. The. engine stalled however, after it had gone a yard or so and the vehicle ran back and jambed Afr. Woodroofe against the gate. He had liis back to the lorry at the lime and sustained an injury to his side while the flesh was stripped from two -fingers of the left hand, He was able to board the lorry, however, and was driven to his borne where he, received medical attention and at the present is confined to his bed. He is reported to be making good progress towards recovery.
