METHODIST SUNDAY SCHOOL

BRIZE DIB'T RiIBI • TION. The anniversary tea and prizegiving in connection with the abovc. school was held last eyening and proved a great success. The Ladies’ Social Guild provided an abundance of good things to cat and the table's looked beautiful with the array of flowers ami coloured serviettes, etc., and the children enjoyed the good tilings and showed their appreciation by clearing up everything. Several parents and friends joined in partaking ten and together with ladies of the guild formed a very pleasant party. Whilst- the room was being cleaved, the children enjoyed games in the church grounds, afterwards returning to the schoolroom for the concert. A very nice programme was given by the children, Afr. Huntley acting as chairman. Air. P. .7. iMnirs, a one-time minister of the church, gave an appropriate address to those present and took bis audience hack twenty years, when lie was minister in charge, Air. Huntley was Vl.ei-ted superintendent of the Sunday School, and Air. Samuel Read, an old veteran ot the church (who was also present) was in ofii.ee as assistant superintendent. In (hose days, said Air. Mairs, the Alethodisl Sunday School was very large, there being practically no other Sunday School in the town. Times had changed, however, but tlff' work was still going on, as proved by the well-filled hall, and the numbers of scholars -present that evening. Each child receiving a book during the evening and prizes were awarded as follows: — Ist Girls.—. Joan Young, Winnie Ebbett, Hazel Hinds. 2nd Girls. — Grace Huntley, Nancy Chrystal-I, Verna King. 3rd G’irls. —Helen .Murray, Winnie ALirray, Alarjory Podmore. 4th Girls. —Betty Young. Dorothy Young, Erica Berry. Ist Boys. —Colin Chrystall, Keith Chrystall, Henry Podmore, Hector (Berry. 2nd __ Boys.—Nelson Podmore, Percy Symes, Alex Ebbett, 3rd Boys. —Donald Young, Leslie Podmore, Leslie Symes. 4til Boys. —Darcy Ebbett, Herston King, Maurice King. Primers. —Fred. Murray, Tommie Berry, Murray Berry. Those taking part in the concert were:— Murray Bjprry, recitation; Colin and Keith Chrystall, piano duet; IT-ors ton 'King, recitation; Afilva King, recitation; Grace Huntley, piano piece-; Dorothy Young, reeiI a lion; Roy Fowler, violin so 1o; Colin, Keith and Nancy Chrystall, pianoforte trio; Percy Symes, recitation; Betty Young, recitation; Hazel Hinds, song; Leslie Symes, recitation; Hazel Ilimls and Grace Huntley, duet; Winnie and Helen Murray, recitation. At the conclusion of the enter tniiimonf Air. ITuntley thanked the ladies for the help they had given, and the parents present for their encouragement. One or two hymns were sung and the meeting closed with prayer, after a very happy time- had been spent by all.
