BREAKING AND ENTERING.
ARRESTED BY CARETAKER
Arrested at an early hour on Saturday morning, Robert William Eeay, a farm labourer, aged 27, of Palmerston North, was on Saturday charged in the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court, before Mr. J. L. 'Stout, S.M., with breaking and entering the (premises of the Premier Drapery Co., Ltd.
(Senior-Sergeant Wlhitehouse for the police, intimated that further charges were pending against the accused and the Magistrate made a remand until December 13.
lie ay was captured red-handed inside the P.D.O. premises at 5 o’clock in the morning by the caretaker.
■Entrance to the building was gained by opening a fan light at the rear of the establishment and after getting inside, the intruder first turned his attention to chicken and sponge cake in (lie luncheon loom. Tie then gathered together a lew articles which included a cushion and rug. The latter he placed on top of the safe where he lay down and went to sleep, t'nfortunately for himself, In l did not wajke until the caretaker had started on his morning duty and he ran into his arms. A few steps aemss the street brought the prisoner and his captor to the police station where he was taken in charge.
