TRIANGULAR SHIELD CONTEST.
The first round of the Triangular Shield contest was played at Shannon yesterday afternoon, under somewhat unfavourable conditions. • Owing to the unsettled weather during the past week or more the green was - somewhat heavy, but the worst feature was the cross wind that, swept the green continuously, which made play difficult. The following are the scores of the three Clubs participating:— 'Shannon: Alexander, Butt, Fell, Grey (s) It); Levin: Clements (s) 25.
'Shannon: H. Hook, Hyde, Cronquest, Clayton (s) 19; Levin: Sulian (s) 19. Shannon: Collier, Terry, Moyuihfl.ii, 'Knowles (s) 16; Foxton: Parkin, Jno. Ross, Christie, Thomson (s) 18. Slwtnnon: Radford, R. Hook, Downes, Roach (s) 33; Foxton: Sc-adden, Hinds,. Walker, Woods is) 7. The averages for each IClub are as follows: Lejvin, 22 per game; Shannon, 191; Foxton, 12£. Foxlon has previously been well behind in the average at the commencement and dually won the Shield, so this occasion shows no exception.
Owing to' the uncertain weather ilie'match with Palmerston North (Hub for the Ainslie Shield was not played yesterday afternoon. It is anticipated that this contest will lake place on Wednesday next. CLUB COMPETITIONS. The entries for tbe Clt*b eornpeliLcn closed yesL - day, and tbe •.ommittee will proceed to draw the qualifying rounds and set the handicaps for the pairs at its monthly meeting.
