OLD HOMESTEAD DESTROYED.

Mas ter ton, Nov. 15.

A message from Martinborough states that the old Bidwell homestead at Pihautea was completely destroyed bv lire early on Thursday morning. The cause of the outbreak 1 is unknown.

The building was the first homestead -of the Bidwell family and was erected by the late Mir. C. R. Bid will in the early days of the \\lairara-pa from timber milled by (be first plant in Morrinsoil’s Bush. On the property being cut up for closer settlement the homestead block passed into the hands of Mr. N. C. D. Mason, now of Mar tinbo rough, who held it. for ten years. The present owner is Mr. Eager. There was an insurance of £l,100 on the building.
