BOXING.
New Plymouth, Nov. 17.
Contrary to expectations, Llew Edwards, an Australian youth of 18, defeated .Johnnie Leckie, New Zealand champion featherweight, on Saturday night on points. The fight went the whole 15 rounds and was a very fine exhibition of boxing. Edwards owed his victory to bis great speed. In the early rounds, he damaged Leckie’s eye and'he had a fair- margin of points. Edwards proved a surprise packet. The impression when he entered the ring was that he was not fit, and the first few rounds scarcely improved his prospects, though Leelkie could not penetrate his defence. Then, however, the Australian opened out with a barrage of blows and fought like a champion, both in defence and attack. —. y NEW WORLD’S lADHT- ' CHAMPION. New York, Nov. 14. Tony Oanzoneri, former featherweight champion, won the world’s lightweight crown when he knocked out A 1 'Singer, defender, in the first round.
