.Mrs. 11. E. Garbett, of Purcell Street, is spending a few days holiday in Wellington. Mr. Horace lan Simson, who is a well-known farmer of the Hastings district and. a. former Mayor of Hastings, has declared his intention of contesting the Napier sent as an Independent Liberal at the next general election. Mr. Simson, who has held various public offices in past years, has long been known as a supporter of the 'original Liberal Party, and say's that his coming candidature will be entirely free from party allegiance.

To achieve 25 years' service to the county without missing one of the moat lily meetings of the council was Hie record of Air. A. K. Grew, the clerk of the Manawatu County Council, mentioned the chairman, -Clr. W. H. Barber, at Tuesday’s melding of the (jouncil, in referring Lo the absence of Mr. Drew through illness.
