THE “TALKIES.”
Last evening at. the request of (lie Western Electric. ICo., a demonstration of a Western Electric Talkie plant was given in, the Town Hall. Owing to certain restrictions i! was impossible to throw the hall open to the general public anil eon- J sequently the attendance was conlined to Councillors, their wives ® and others connected with the Council. A short and interesting programme was run through and those who saw and heard the perform- ft auce were loud in their praise of the plant. / The sub-committee set up by the Council to go into the matter of installing a machine met prior to and after the demonstration and I heir deliberations, which were in committee, extended well into the night. Certain proposals were advanced to the principal of the company present and., if satisfactory to headquarters, the business transaction will possibly be finalised at; next Monday evening’s Council meeting. The plant was only temporarily set up and when it is considered that no draping was done the results were remarkable. Should the Council decide on the plant at present temporarily in the ball it will take a little over a week to effect a permanent installation.
