Air. and Airs. A. Brooke-Taylor, of Baines,so, left for the north on Saturday.
Airs. A. Ilawke, of Levin, is visiting Foxton, and is staying with Airs. A., Ross, of Purcell Street.
The friends of Air. H. Bright, of Xorbiton Road, will be pleased to learn Ilia I he lias now returned home from the Palmerston North Hospital. The death has occurred at Palmerston of Altrs. Margaret Woods, aged 81. Airs. Woods accompanied her late husband, Mr. Patrick W’loods, to Australia 52 years ago, the latter throwing up a good position in England to seek the gold that repo'rt said was so plentiful that it could he picked up in nuggets. With their family of two, the couple sailed on the ill-fated ship Hyderabad. On one occasion the vessel nearly sank, and the emigrants had given up ail hope. Air. and Mrs. Woods landed at Brisbane. The Hyderabad reachNew Zealand only to go ashore at Tfokio, where its remains are still to be seen. The stories of gold proved to be exaggerated, and prospects of making a fortune vanished shortly after the disillusioned family arrived in Australia. Air. Woods engaged in railway work and when he died Mrs Woods came to New Zealand. 'She is survived bv three sons and two daughters.
