THE HEMP MARKET.
SEPTEMBER OR ADI'N G RETURNS.
The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow and stripper slips for the month of September have • been issued by the Depart - ment of Agriculture as follows: — Ports O.F. H.F. L.F. C. Auckland 105 220 53 3 Wellington Foxton 2fi 4 Dunedin 1 - 58 1 1 Bluff Eight bales at Auckland, 10 at Wellington, one at Dunedin, and four at the Bluff were, rejected. The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis:—Good fair 105 (257)., high fair 403 (1728). low. fair 258 (1740), common 30 (010), rejected 23 (224), a total of 885 bales as against 4571 bales graded the same period last year, a, decrease of 3086 bales. The number of bales graded at; each port- was: —Auckland 389, Wellington 327, Foxton 30, Dunedin 61, Bluff 78. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow graded: — (Ports Ist 2nd 3rd Auckland 12 59 9 Wellington Foxton Bluff One bale at Wellington was condemned. The follow trig shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being -given in parenthesis:—lst grade 12 (90), 2nd grade 159 (837),’’3rd grade 72 (290), condemned 1 (45), a total of 244 bales as*against 1262 bales graded the same period lasi year, a decrease of 1018 bales. The number of bales- graded at each port was:—Auckland 80, •Wellington 133, Foxton 0, Bluff 25. 'Stripper Tow: —There 'were no stripper tow graded for fhe month of September. Stripper Slips:—Twelve -bales at the Bluff were graded 2nd grade, 03 bales being graded the same period last year, a decrease of 51 bales.
