MANAWATU BOWLING CENTRE.

ANNUAL MEETING

The annual meeting of the Afanawatu Bowling Centre was held in Palmerston North yesterday, presided over by Mr J. A. Nash, MP. Mr D. Christie represented the local club.

Mr J. A. Nash, in moving the adoption of the annual report, stated that the year had been an exceptionally gooil one. A number of visits had been paid to the centre, and quite a number of outside matches had been played. He did not- think that the pairs tournament should continue, as in most clubs the younger players did not gel a chance. One tournament was really all that was wanted, and the rinks tournament at Easter was what was required. In regard to the testing- of bowls, the matter was most unsatisfactory. The Dominion council would not allow the centre to send a man to Wellington to qualify, and, ins the expert was in Dunedin, they would have to send there if they wanted their own official tester. The Wellington tester had written to say that he could not come to Palmerston North, but the bowls could be sent down. The Wanganui tester (Mr Stanton) had also written stating that he would be prepared to visit .Palmerston North under the same conditions as he had travelled to Feilding-.- Air Nash said he hoped that they would have visits from Wellington, Wanganui and the team from over the ranges, and that the annual visit would be paid to Wellington. He also thought that Auckland should be paid a visit. In the coming season, as one was owed to that centre.

Mr Wardrop said he thought that they should look into the future in the matter of securing a bowls tester to he stationed in Palmerston North. He suggested that Mr Nash be elected to the Dominion council to see what he could do.

■Mr Nash said the centre, with .Cl 13 in hand, had the money to secure its own apparatus. Mr liudford moved that the cenIre purchase the equipment and appoint a tester. 'This was seconded bv Mr Wardrop and carried. Mr J. A. Hash was appointed to inquire into the cost of a table tester with a Wellington firm. Mr Christie moved that the pairs tournament be continued. This was seconded and carried unani-

mously. it was decided to hold the Easier tournament as usual. On the motion of Mr Hunter, Lhe matter of providing a banner in addition to the usual tournament prizes was left in tbe hands of the executive, with power to act. Mi- Bailsman asked if it would be possible for the secretaries of the various clubs to meet prior to the commencement of the season to draw up fixtures. He placed his suggestion in the form of a motion, which was carried. Air J. A. Hash was re-elected president. Mr D. Christie (Foxton) was elected one of the Vicepresidents.
