DISCOUNTS ON ELECTRICITY ACCOUNTS.
GOOD NEWS FOR CONSUMERS
At Tuesday’s meeting of the Horowhenua Electric Powter Board the treasurer (Mr. Ramsay) reported as follows: Loan of £15,000: During the period the foririalities in connection with the raising of the above loan were completed, and the first instalment of £SOOO has been received.
'Discount on Accounts. —The very importamt change in the terms of payment of electricity accounts, abolishing' the penalty system and substituting a discount therefor, came into operation since last meeting. With the object of giving the consumers notice of the alteration and of explaining the effect of same, a circular memo was delivered by the meter-reader with the electricity account. It was apparent however, that some of our consumers did not read fhc memo nor did they examine the account very closely, for in spite of the fact (hat it was clearly shown on the account that it was subject to a- discount for payment by a certain date, quite a number sent the gross amount. In one case a consumer entitled to a discount of 13/4 failed to take it. On the other hand there were the usual few who failed to pay in time and so. lost the discount.
