The following was the personnel of the local team:— Foxton (yellow).—Huff, ' Croon, Huff, Williams, Simpson, Hirini, Hartley, Chrystall, Taylor, Robinson, Barber, Scott, Anderson, Smith, McCarthy. The reds kicked off. A free kick to Foxton saw the ball go to Brewer,; at full back, who found Ihe line well down. From a penalty, Cribb unsuccessfully attempted to goal. 'Foxton attacked, Brewer clearing. Then Walca broke away, hut was collared near the line. Shortly after, from a free kick nwarded to reds, Brewer put in an excellent line kick. From a serum Hartley kicked to touch, and getting the ball from the line-out Foxton carried it into their opponents’ territory, where Huff was collared near the line; a movement in iwhieli Newman, Walca, Saxon and Tippler were prominent,, removed play back to .Foxton’s 25, . where, from a line-out, Bnekman attempted to cross, but was pulled down.
Anderson marked and found touch. The rods came hack, Budkina n on this occasion being successful in scoring. Cribb failed to add the extra points. The reds returned to the attack, Simpson marking. On the bajl going into play, Roach found the lino in Foxton’s 25. Hirini broke away from the line-out. but Walca and Jude saved splendidly by speculating kicks. Foxton kept tip the attack, and Taylor scored, Williams failing to
goal. Half-time sounded ; with the score: Foxton 6, Shannon 3. 'The game had not been resumed lons' when, from a penalty, Brewer landed a "nod goal. Foxton rallied again, Williams breaking away, but a forward pass to Anderson spoilt the movement. From a mark Smith kicked to Brewer, who returned to the halfway line. Foxton, by short passing bouts, worked back to reds’ 25, but the latter dribbled clear. Flay hovered round midfield for some time, till N. Huff, with a good lack, found the line near the corner flag. Shannon were kept busy defending their line. They cleared momentarily, but a fine piece of play bv Foxton saw Croon get possession and pass to Simpson, v.ho cut in and sent the ball on to Huff, who, with, a clear run in, scored. Williams failed with the kick.
This reverse put new life into Shannon, and a dribbling rush, in which Cribb, Newman and Saxon were conspicuous, resulted in the hitter scoring. With the scores again level, play became fast, both sides striving for a win. Foxton were unfortunate, when Hartley dribbled through and/ picked up and passed to 'Scott, who was nicely collared by Jude, owing to Croon not being close enough to fake the pass from Scott.
