'The Town Clerk accordingly took the matter up and at .Monday night’s Borough Council meeting it letter was read from the engineer to the Public Works Department, submitting n quotation of £1966 .12/- for sealing the road from the end of the bitumen in Russell St. to the Ala mi wai n County Council houndary, and asking the Council if it would he prepared to pay its proportion of .(.’245 16/6 towards the wm'k, which would be subsidised by i'.'i for .Cl bv the Highways Board. The communication further stated that the .Manawatu County lOonneil’s proportion of the cost would he the same as the Council's while the Highway Board's contribution would be CM 74 10/-. Cr. Barron said the Council bad never asked for the sealing of the road mentioned. What they ashed lbr was the sealing of the road from the end of the bitumen in Victoria Street to the boundary, a much smaller distance. Tlu* Mayor said he did not think the Council, would be prepared to expend £245 iti/(i on the road and it was decided to advise the Public Works Department accordingly.
