The Unemplbymeut Bill was put through its final stages and passed in the House of Representatives in the early hours of this morning. The lengthy process of committal was dually completed at 1.10 a.m. and the Bill was reported to the House with amendments. The Leader of the Labour Party (Mr IT. E. Holland) then moved that the Bill be re-eommilted, to give the Covernment an opportunity of re-considering the amendments that had been sought by the Labour Party during the committee stage, notably those aiming at the replacement of the flat rate of contributions by a graduated -.eale.
Four Reform members supported the Labour Party in advocating re-committal, whereupon the Acting Prime Minister (Hon. E. A. Ransom) intimated that it would lie unfortunate it Mr. Holland's amendment were carried, because it would lie ’ regarded by the Government as an indication that the House was not satisfied with Ihe Bill in its present form. A division was taken just afi<*r 2 u.m., and the amendment was rejected by 35 votes to 2'5. The division list was as follows: — (For the Amendment (25). —
