IN BANKRUPTCY.

LOCAL HOTELKEEPER'S FAILURE. The adjourned meeting of creditors in the estate of Percy Hubert Hickey, hotelkeeper, of Foxton, was held at Palmerston North on Wednesday afternoon 'before Mr. F. C. Litclifield, Deputy Official Assignee. The creditors present were Messrs W. R. Beattie (representing the Public Trustee), D. Christie (C. M. Ross Co., Ltd), and E. V. Spear (Messrs Barraud and Abraliain, Ltd.) The D.O.A. stated that an examination of the books had failed to throw any further light on the matter. Mr. Spear: What did Mr. Hickey have when he started in business? The D.0.A.: £2. Mr. Spear (to bankrupt): How did you manage to get in in the first place, What were the prospects? Bankrupt: My mother-in-law paid the rent for three months. The D.O.A. stated that the takings had been initiated through the inclusion of money which had been withdrawn from the bank for change. Bankrupt said he had purchased a car but returned it. The money did not come out of the takings, but was won at the races. He had paid out about £IOO to satisfy judgment summonses from Dunedin. Bankrupt denied owing £2O for taxi fares. He said the amount was only .£7 10/-. There were no further questions and tlie meeting lapsed.
