PERSONAL.
The death occurred at Tokaanu on Saturday of Te Robu Manga, at the age of 87 years. She was the widow of the Mania poto chief. Rewi Maniapoto, the defender of Orakau. One of the oldest identities of the Otaki district in the person of Mr. Herbert Freeman, J.P.. passed away on Wednesday at the age ol‘ 80 years. The late Mr. Freeman was horn in Norwich, England, and served his apprenticeship in the coachbuilding trade at 'Placton-on-Soa, Essex. He came to New Zealand in 3873 by the ship La Hague. For many years Mr. Freeman followed his trade, and he acquired the Otaki Coach Factory in 1880, doing a considerable business. Subsequently he became interested in dairying and the latter part of his life was spent in active farming, and in promoting the welfare of the industry. From 3899 to 1910 he was a. member of the Horowhenua County Council, and was chairman i»n several occasions. He lias been a member of the Hospital Board, Otaki Licensing Bench, Masonic and Oddfellows’ Lodges, School Committee, Bowling Club, Otaki Highway Board and a director of the New Zealand Dairy Union.
