AUGUST GRADING RETURNS.

The grading returns for hemp, tow, stripper tow, and .stripper slips for the month of August have been issued by the Deparment of Agriculture as follows: — Ports G.Fr H.F. L.F. C. Auckland 50 153 167 9 Wellington • —i 324 196 21 Poston Picton 22 17 20 Dunedin 20 44 —* Bluff 10 . 91 90 18

Four bales at Auckland, 29 at Wellington, three at Poston, and 22 at the Bluff were rejected. - The number of bales in each grade was as follows, the number for the corresponding period. of last year being given in parenthesis:—(Fine nil (1), good fail- 102 (171), high fair 67'2 (981), low fair 481 (806), common 61 (404), rejected 58 Q-7IL), condemned nil (2), a total of 1374 bales as against 2535 bales graded the same period last year, a decrease of 1161 bales. *

Tile number of bales graded at each port was: —Auckland 383, Wellington 570, Foxton 67, Pieton 59, Dunedin, 64, Bluff 23i. The following shows the detailed particulars of the tow graded: — Ports . Ist 2nd 3rd Auckland 29 28 43 Wellington 4 122 - Pox ton ■ — 37 Pieton 28 ■ —i Bluff ' Dunedin -Two bales at Auckland, 9 at Wellington, and 14 at the. Bluff were condemned. The following shows the number of bales in each grade, the number for the corresponding period of last year being given in parenthesis : —lst grade <6l (26), 2nd grade 206 3rd grade 137 (189), condemned 25 (37), a total of 429 bales as against 754 bales graded {lie same {period last year,, a decrease of 325 bales. ' The number of bales graded at each port :; was Auckland 102, Wellington 135, Foxton 37, Pieton 28, Bluff" 120, Dunedin 7. 'Stripper Tow: —'There was no return for stripper tow for the month of August.
