GIRL’S UNHAPPY PLIGHT
FRIENDLESS AND HOMELESS. IMMIGRANT FROM IRELAND. New Plymouth, August 20. A girl aged 17, who was friendless and without money and was slranded in Ha worn, was recently brought to the pitiful necessity of sleeping for two nights under the -helter of hedges in King Edward Park. She endured severe privations before the poliee took charge of her and sent her to hospital suffering front malnutrition and exposure.
It was necessary to keep the girl iu bed for four days before she had fully recovered from her experience. Employment has now been found for her.
The girl’s story is that she came from Lreload six months ago as a domestic servant, but lost her position. She became stranded in Dawera and her efforts to find employment were unavailing. In desperation she returned to the park, .where her suitcase was, and huddled under a hedge for the night. Next day’s search for work was fruitless, and another night had to be spent in the park before the ponce came to her aid.
