The fiy.'inls of Airs. Aloir, of Shannon, will regret to learn that she is seriously ill. Prior to her nepnrlure from Foxlon, Nurse Wnrdle’s friends entertained her to a tea at Mrs. Hind’s dining rooms. Th!e injuries sustained by Afiss Mary Thymic, who was thrown from a pony last 'luesday proved more serious than at liist was thought. She was admitted to the Palmerston North Hospital oil Wednesday suffering from a frne(Ure of the arm just below the -boulder, which was also dislocated. Slu* is reported to be makinggood progress towards recovery. Mr. .). Whyte, of Tokonuiru, who was appointed Patron of the 1? ox--1,,n Racing Club at Wednesday’s animal meeting, to 111 L the vacancy caused by the death of the late Air. Francis Robinson, has been connected with tin* Club for very many veai-s. lie has tilled the position of Steward, Secretary and President to the Club, relinquishing the latter position only two years ago when Mr. W. E. .Barber was elected to till the vacancy. The appointment, made on Wednesday was the unanimous wish of the meeting, members considering that I lie honour was due to Air. W hyte more than to any one else connected with the Chili.
The death occurred at Wellington on gSih July of Air. F. C. Bertliold, in his 75th year. For many wars the late Air. Berthold was well known on the Mjest Coast of the South Island, and look a leading part in the musical activities of that region.- Since leaving the WVsi Const, thirty years ago the late Mr. Berthold practised his profession of teacher of music in the Wairarapa and Alanawatu districts respectively, and resided in Foxlon. He settled in Wellington twelve years ago. He is survived !,y a widow, three sons, Afessrs IT. Berthold, C. Berthold, and A. fieri hold, and a daughter, Airs. H. Parker, all of Wellington. In seconding a motion of thanks to Air. G. A. Atonic (Chairman of the llorowhenua County Council, and member of the No. 9 Highways District Council) for his able address at Thursday’s meeting of the Foxton Lunch 'Club, the Alayor (Air. Perrcau) referred to the speaker as being the capable chairman of a most enterprising Council, which had carried out the pioneering work in highway matters in this Dominio-n. In conveying i he motion to Air. Monk, Mr. .1. K. Hornblow (Chairman) said that the district owed a great deal to Mr. Afonk. He was a veal “live wire” and -although associated with a number of local bodies be carried out bis multitudinous duties in a most ellieient and capable manner to the benefit of the district as a whole.
