Mr. J. K. Ho rub low is at .present in Wellington on Hospital business. Mr. and Mrs. Wills and Miss E. Wanlklyn, of Taranaki, are at present visiting Mrs. Moore, of Ladys Mile. Mrs. Bayley, of Gisborne, is at present- spending a holiday with her sister, Mrs. H. E. Garlbett, of Purcell Street. Ensign Matkeson, late of Foxton, and who has been in charge of the Salvation Army in Carterton for the past few months, has been appointed to the command of the Marton Corps. A pretty local wedding was celebrated yesterday (particulars of which will appear in our next issue), the contracting parties being Eileen, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Cuininerfield, of Avenue Road, Foxton, and George Alexander Magee.
The friends of Mrs. E. H. Barber, of Robinson Street, will regret to learn that she is seriously ill. Her condition is causing her relatives grave anxiety.
The Minister of Justice (the Hon. J. G. Culbbe announces that Mr. W. G. Wohlmann, District Superintendent of Police at Auckland, has been appointed Commissioner of Police. .Mr. Wohlmann joined the Police Force in Dunedin in 1895. In 1917 he was promoted bo senior sergeant and served for 11 months - in .Christchurch. In 1918 he became sub-inspector and was transferred to Auckland. In November, 1920, he was appointed 'Commissioner of Police in Samoa, and after a little more than a year, in which he did much valuable work in organising the Police Force of the island, he returned to New Zealand with the rank of inspector. Mr. Wohlmann was promoted superintendent and took charge of the Auckland district on 20th January, 1926.
