THEFT OF EGGS.
YOUNG MAN GIVEN A CHANCE. Uoljphiis Edward ('mil;, a young nmn, aged 23, was charged with the theft of fourteen dozen eggs, valued a I 35/- from J. G. Iloimre, of Foxton, on Jiime l!)ih.
Cook was represented by Mr. Beigin who entered a plea of guilty. Mr. Bcrgin said accused came, of respectable parents. His mother died last iFebrtmi-y and for three months he had been out of work. Ilonorc was a poultry farmer and accused knew the run of the farm. He had nothing and ailing on the spur of the moment yielded to lemplalion and stole the eggs. The fiily previous occasion on which aci used had appeared before. the Coiirl was in connection with a rlunge of lighting some time ago. Constable Owen said the theft was a mean one, llonore had given accused employment when he was out of work and later Mr. Llonore was laid up as the result . of an accident and ho expressed his gratitude lor Ibis by stealing the eggs. The eggs, although only of a coimnercia value of 2/6 a dozen were worth €2O to Mr. llonore as they were special eggs set apart for ineubaior purposes. Cook had made a had start. A couple of Court days ago lie had been charged with lighting and now came before the Court .;ii a charge of theft. He took the eggs for what he could get for them and endeavoured to sell them the following morning. Most of the eggs had been recovered however. The S.M. said he would give Cook one more chance. He would convict him and order him to come up for sentence when called on within twelve months and pointed out that it' lie was con vie led on any oilier go witliih that time lie would he liable lo be sentenced also on the first charge. lie hoped Unit accused would behave himself in I ill lire.
