NO FREE GIFTS. In (he House of Representatives on Tuesday, replying to -Mr. C. E. Macmillan, lion. G. W. Forbes stated that tlie Government was prepared to provide advances for the llaxmilling industry to enable it !o carry on over the winter months, but owing to the present financial situation the Government was not in a position to make a free gift to the industry.
