The expected visit of the British Bilgin' footballers to a special hereto'arranged for them by the Hastings Orphans’ Club last evening did nor eventuate, the reason being that owing to some confusion llie team did not 'lenow, according lo their manager (Mr. .1. Baxter), that they were expected. They had been entertained till a very late hour after the Maori match on Wednesday and the necessity of keeping lit precluded their acceptance of last evening’s invitation. Over three hundred Orphans and their friends were present and all were keenly disappointed. The original programme of entertainment. for the visitors during their stay in Hapicr was submitted by the Hawke’s Bay ‘Rugby Union to the Eew' Zealand Rugby Union who returned the draft with cortuin amendments, but the Hastings Orphans fixture had .boon allowed to stand. To-night the Hawke’s Bay Union decided to ask the Hew Zealand Union for an explanation of the misunderstanding. When the matter was referred to Mr. Baxter on the team’s arrival here he sitid the matter was submitted to him, shut it hhd been turned down. 'Mr. Norrie said his union would Lake no responsibility for the arrangement not being carried out.
