Palmerston North Cor-' oilier on Thursday. The deceased was riding a motor cycle, when he was injured, in a collision with a car, near Sandon, on Ajpril 12th. lie died on May 19lh. The doctor who attended the dei eased at the Hospital, slated that I lie cause of death was surgical shook supervening on a debilitated condition of general health following the extremely serious nature <>t the. injuries, it being stated that an operation had been necessary to effect the union of fractured bones which were failing to knit. Death was not really attributable to the direct effect of anaesthesia.
John .Joseph Evans, driver of the ear, said that he wfas travelling at 35 miles an hour, and on approaching the corner near Ml. Stewart lie tried to slacken speed, hat the accelerator would not come up. He stooped down to pull it up, hut knocked the steering-wheel, causing the car to wobble. Just as the ear reached the corner, Hi (drey came round and the crash occurred. Witness applied the brakes, and the car turned over.
Questioned, witness said he had had live drinks that afternoon. — three before and two after the football match. He would not deny that he had more than two after the match. The Coroner said he would make no comment on the evidence, in view of the likelihood of svib.seqnenl proceedings.
A verdict was returned in accordance with the medical evidence.
