RACING ADMINISTRATION
ICIONFERENCE OF DISTRICT CLUBS. An important gathering of racingl clubs in the Wanganui District area was held at Marton yesterday, when various phases of the administration of the sport, chiefly the cost of gratis privileges and proposals to abolish these, wlerc fully discussed. The meeting resolved itself into a preliminary discussion, no definite action being taken apart from recommendations of the clubs concerned. The dclega* Ic-s will report to their respective, bodies in the interior and another conference, at which it is hoped definite action will be agreed to. will take place on August 7. At yesterday’s meeting there were present: Messrs A. Graham and -T. E. Palmer (Whverloy), AY. iMeFarlniie and J. Lnpton (EgmontWanganni Hunt), G-. C. Glenn and P. A. O’Neill (Wanganui), AY. Kirkland and M. B. Bet'gin (Foxton), R. McDonald and J. Howell (Asbliurkt), .J. McKelvie and J. IT. Perl'ctt (Rang'itifcci), E. Short and E. G'oodhobere (Eeilding), C. A. Louisson and H. Gillies (Manawatn), and E. Opeiisliaw and iTT. .T. McMnnawnv (Marton). The following secretaries wore also in attendance: Messrs IT. A. Goodall (Rangitikei), A. AAlav (Marton) and V. Dibble (Manawatn). ■Several remits and suggestions were tabled with a view to opening discussions and the latter lasted quite a considerable time. Tbe following recommendations to the Hubs concerned were carried.
That the issue of complimentary tickets he abolished, except for owners racing horses at the meeting concerned, and except for certain tickets to he given out by the presidents of clubs alone to certain dis ti ngui sli ed visitors.
That counter luncheons be prosided for stewards and visitors instead of tbe fall luncheons now provided; this is not to apply, of course, to (he public luncheon balls, only to those cases where complimentary luncheon tickets have been made available in the past. That the matter of reducing gate charges be left to the individual clubs.
That the salaries of racing off! rials he a matter for adjustment and arrangement by the individual clubs.
That a system of uniform colourings for stewards’ passes to district meetings be taken up' with the other districts, a suggestion to he u nde that distinct and different colours he adopted by each district end that each district secretary advise the others of the colours lo be adopted by his district.
That a uniform time of 9 p.m. be agreed to for the closing of nominations for race meetings,.
That the intervals between races be shortened where possible. The proposals are of far-reach-ing effect if carried into operation, and it is probable that the next meeting of the delegates null bring forth decisions which will ha.ve im - portant results upon the race-going •public. The matters referred to will no doubt lead to considerable discussion by tbe clubs at their individual meetings.
