REFEREE ASSAULTED BY PLAYER.
AND RENDERED UNCONSCIOUS. New Plymouth, June 9. Referee K. Nodder was carried off the field unconscious in the senior Rugby competition match between Oka to and Tttkapa at Okato. Tie was knocked out by an angry player who disagreed with his rulings. The match was abandoned with Okato leading by six points to three and with Tukapa attacking strenuously. Feeling was running high, Okato supporters disagreeing with the referee’s rulings. According to the referee, the climax came when he ordered G. hocbuck oh tlio held for persistent “cheek.” Roebuck’s brother, E. Roebuck, came up and it is alleged used had language and the referee ordered him off also. The latter i op lied with a. left hooked swing to the jaw which stretched the referee on the ground unconscious. Roebuck walked immediately to the dressing shed and those in control declared the game off. The referee soon recovered consciousness.
