FOXTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Eoxton Borough Council was held last evening. Reports were read and dealt with as follows: — ROAD FOREMAN’S REPORT. The road foreman (Mr. A. G. Huntley) reported as follows:During the month the staff has been engaged on the following works: —Cleaning the drains in I'nion and Purcell Streets, Avenue Road, east of Spring Street, Baker and Howan Streets, No. (i Line and boundary drains in Russell Street and Reeve. Street. Drain cleaning is now completed with the exception of [notion of Reeve Street overgrown by noxious weeds. Owners of properties c-oneerned have been notified and when they have cleared the gorse and lupin the drain will he finished. Grading work has been done on Moutoa Road and Purcell Street and general maintenance work carried out. The road through the cutting in Fatter Street was inspected and a 'recommendation made that, the -icin-e lit l [nit back two feet m either side, as at present the roadwav was onlv 14ft. (tin. wide.
The report was adopted and it was decided to widen Flitter Street as suggested. WATERWORKS REPORT. The waterworks foreman (Mr. W. Neville) reported that during the month four leaking water mains wen* repaired, the intake to the lower caulked, assistance given to farmers on the Levin Road with the installation of a flood gate, tree ana ids removed in Union Street, and one house drain cleaned. During the month 1,150,000 gallons of water was pumped at the station. —Adopted. C OR RES-PO N HENCE was read and dealt with as follows • From Air. H. Osbo’rne, thanking the Council for accepting his quoin! ion for petrol and oil.—Received. From the Standard Service Station, stating that they noticed in the local paper that the Council had agreed to give Mr. H. Osborne a I urn in the supply of your petrol, etc. They pointed out however, that Mr. Osborne supplied the Council from about 30th July, 1927 lo about October, 1929 at 2/2 per gallon, at which latter date the Service Station tendered and got the supply at 1/9U The Company complained that without giving them a chance to quote, the Council had given Air. Osborne the supply at the same rate, which they considered unfair, and asked the Council to reconsider the matter. —The letter was received without comment. THE BEACIT AS AIRPORT.
The Mayor reported that since last meeting Major Dalton had \ Kited Foxton 111,(1 beach for the purpose of inspecting the landing remind at the latter locality.
